Camp Sabael, Its Story begins by relating the tale of Indian Lake's first year-round settler, Sabael Benedict. It then goes on to describe the formation of Camp Sabael by the original five founders, giving the reader capsule biographies of each of these remarkable gentlemen and their families. 

A chapter is devoted to each of the cabins of Camp Sabael, with many historic photos and wonderful stories. Additional chapters go into the special activities enjoyed by families while at Camp; fishing, hunting, hiking, swimming, games, and more. Finally Mr. Colwell takes a look into the future and celebrates the enduring beauty of the mountains and the friendships fostered there.

I have been using these ‘WORDS’ daily for almost three decades primarily, to do morning recitation. This practice has helped me immeasurably to face the challenges of daily life, to keep a balanced perspective and to continue expanding my horizons of growth—emotionally, intellectually and socially. Three aspects of the contents proved particularly beneficial. First, the early acknowledgement, confrontation and bold acceptance of the contradictions and conflicts inherent in every individual’s life and every act of living, provided the initial and continuing surge of benefits to me. Secondly, the adaptation of the traditional focus on the “Oneness of God” in Jewish liturgy by a transition to a focus on the “Oneness of Humanity” provided an ongoing source of inspiration as I was formulating and using sequential segments of “WORDS”. Finally, in the last five years, one other element of content heightened its importance—my realization of our human capacity to fashion and modify feelings, especially Compassion, on which the future of humanity depends, and my incorporating this insight into many portions of the text of “WORDS” raised the level of benefit derived from the daily practice of recitation of “WORDS”. Hopefully borrowing the practice of recitation from Judaism will prove as beneficial to a wider public as an earlier borrowing of the practice of meditation from Buddhism.
