Professor Chris Bondy of RIT s School of Media Sciences knows this is a crucial time for graphic communications businesses. Many management methods are deeply ingrained in our industry. Unfortunately, many no longer apply in the current market and environment. But our research revealed some exceptional companies that go against the common wisdom and outperform their competitors in a big way. That piqued his interest and he sought others who shared that understanding. In late 2012, Bondy found that Wayne Peterson of the Black Canyon Consulting Group and Dr. Joe Webb of Strategies for Management were of the same mind. Together, they began the examination of business models, technology, marketing, and management. They came to the issues from different vantage points, questioning assumptions and assessing alternative management actions. The result was a new process to assess and understand the condition of a complete business enterprise. They named it UnSquaring The Wheel. The Uncommon Denominator: A Tribute to Richard Hirsch presents a spectrum of aesthetic eloquence and technical mastery in the ceramic arts. Originally published to coincide with a traveling exhibition, this catalog celebrates the career of Hirsch through the work of a selection of his alumni. Moments of Truth: Robert R. Davila, the Story of a Deaf Leader

Withstanding childhood poverty in a migrant farming family and an illness in 1943 at age 11 that left him profoundly deaf, Robert R. Davila persevered to become one of the first deaf persons in history to earn a doctorate. He did so at a time when interpreting in higher education had not yet become a professional support service. Davila worked unfailingly to achieve positions of stature as vice president of Gallaudet University, the president of three major deaf education organizations, and the seeming culmination of his career as the highest appointed deaf official ever in the U.S. government at the Department of Education. Yet, after this government service, he returned to his field to achieve another series of firsts. He served as Headmaster of the New York School for the Deaf at White Plains for three years, and as the first deaf chief executive officer of the National Technical Institute for the Deaf at Rochester Institute of Technology for seven years. Then, in 2006, Bob Davila was invited to assume the presidency of Gallaudet University in a time of crisis. Dick Rosenbaum, born to a Jewish immigrant family in 1930s upstate New York, first met with discrimination as a young boy. Intensifying his personal struggle was the onset of alopecia hair loss at age 8. Through his new autobiography we learn that Dick Rosenbaum not only beat the odds but actually turned his hair condition into a major asset which he used to enhance his career throughout his remarkable life. Rosenbaum traces his career as a Cornell Law student, a practicing attorney in Rochester, New York, and then head of his county's Republican Committee, which segued into a nomination as the youngest New York Supreme Court Judge in history.
