There are histories invented and recreated, all set in a country in which `The Wicker Man' is less a cult horror film than the everyday story of country folk. These are tales of Britain that touch on the hidden sides of its culture, history, future, geography, mythology and folklore.

Why isn't science fiction criticism as bold or as startling as science fiction itself? Could it be that SF criticism usually addresses itself to only two questions: how to define SF, and how to police its boundaries?
