A very important word in the history of the Christian Church in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries is "preservation." If the visible manifestation of historic Christianity is to survive, every pulpit, every choir, every church, every teacher, and every pastor must add a word to all agendas. The word is preservation. The influence of the apostasy is so ubiquitous that we as Christians everywhere must earnestly work at the preservation of the things of God....
 The greatest changes I can foresee among Fundamentalists now is to become divided over "What is the Text?" There has always been some latitude in what is the interpretation of the Text, thank God, but we must not be divided on "What is the Text?"
 There needs to be a very simple and practical plan whereby we may teach others how to preserve the Preserved Word of the King James Version. We offer seven principles: 1.Preserve it in Love. This means to simply preserve it, not prove it. 2. Preserve it by always using it publicly. This means to publicly preserve, not publicly compare it. 3. Preserve it by defending its English words publicly. This means to use its English words paramount to the English audience, not defending it by Biblical languages as a 4. Preserve it in English Bible departments in Christian schools. This means teach the Elizabethan English distinctives of that time of the unity of the KJV in reaction to the contemporary time in which we live. 5. Preserve it by witnessing and evangelizing planting KJV words for evangelism and revival. This means we teach that God has His Word in our English-speaking world. 6. Preserve it in power. This means that an English word, under the work of the Holy Spirit, has the power of the Word of God behind it. 7. Preserve it in the doctrine to others, too. This means that all the fundamental principles of the Gospel can be easily found in the KJV.

The Book of Revelation, by its own nature and structure, is the most difficult book in the Bible to interpret. However, it remains the Crown of the Word of God. In spite of the difficulty, the Holy Spirit grants a "blessedness" to both the hearer and reader of this particular book. Throughout the entire Bible there is an added blessing to those who read and listen to its wonderful pages.
 Besides all of this, Old Testament prophecy leaves you in a purposeful quandary.
 First, the order of future events in Old Testament predictions does not follow a strictly chronological sequence. Jacob's Trouble (The Great Tribulation Period) could follow a Millennial Reign of Christ prophecy, or one of these two Old Testament prophecies could be set forth without a reference to the other one at all. Because of this, it is possible to see an earlier local fulfillment foreshadowing the larger later event. As an illustration of this prophetical principle, it is like a man standing in a room with a potted seedling of a cedar tree on a table. As he lifts his eyes and looks through the window, he sees the same species as a giant, full-grown cedar on yonder mountain. In that one view in that room, the eye could pick up several other items the table, the chair, other seedlings and yet beyond the window, other species and other mountains.
 There is a second item in our quandary. It concerns the fact that evidently Daniel did see the revealed order of the later prophetical events, as the Apostle John did on the Isle of Patmos, and was in the process of writing it down in his own prophecy when he was commanded to "seal up the prophecy until the time of the end." Daniel was commanded this twice (chapter 12). At this time, Daniel was involved in his prophecy of :seventy weeks, his "last week" of seven years, his prophecy of "the midst of the week" of "the last 3½ years" (chapter 9), as well as the 1,260 days, the 1,290 days, and the 1,334 days to be added for the Battle of Armageddon and preparation of the earth for the Millennium (chapter 12).
 Therefore, we may say that Daniel saw, in Old Testament times, the prophetical order of events. John is to break the "seal" commanded of God to Daniel. Daniel then becomes the explanatory link in our understanding between other Old Testament prophets and John in the Book of Revelation. So, by the double witness of Daniel and John, the quandary is removed, the seal is taken away, and we are advantaged in our time to see and understand John's Apocalypse better. Evidently, God reserved the order of these to be clearer as the actual time drew near. That is not to remotely imply that, prophetically, the Book of Revelation had nothing to offer the people of God until later time. In the meantime of these earlier years, there were "many antichrists," and the very same prophecies had earlier foreshadowings, as we mentioned previously, which gave great light in the Dark Ages.
 The struggles over this book, from the church fathers to Augustine, from Augustine to Calvin, and finally from Calvin to the nineteenth century, more than explain the quandary. They also explain the quandary away. --From the Preface

The Book of Revelation

Charismatic Series, Volume 1 of 4. A documented book of the origin and growth of the charismatic movement both for the layman who is looking for answers, and there is rationale for the theologian seeking deeper understanding. It is in three parts:
 Part One: The Fallacy of Interpretive History deals with the problems of trying to defend the modern Charismatic movement through history. Historically, Pentecostalists were primarily concerned with the holy life, not with the superficial gifts. Dr. Spence traces the gradual deterioration of the Pentecostal movement to its present weak position.
 Part Two: The Weakness of Human Experience discusses the problems of trying to defend the neo-Pentecostal movement on the basis of human experience. Human experience, says the author, is subject to error because it depends on interpretation. Experientially based beliefs always lead to compromise and sin.
 Part Three: The Infallibility of Divine Revelation concerns the inspiration of the Bible. Dr. Spence maintains that we can only be safe in basing our beliefs on the Word of God. It alone is infallible. It is also all sufficient; there is no need to add anything to the Scriptures. The Bible must be the basis of measuring all else. Based on this the true deeper life is not speaking in tongues or other special gifts--it is a life of obedience to God.
 There is material here for the layman who is looking for answers, and there is rationale for the theologian seeking deeper understanding. Read it carefully and thoroughly. This book will help you understand the Charismatic movement.

Charismatism: Awakening or Apostasy?

Here is a book for which thoughtful Christians have waited too long. It points out the intrinsic dangers of lip service to biblical inerrancy, inspiration, and infallibility without sound biblical convictions and practice in daily life. Christians who desire to honor God and obey His Word know instinctively that there is something wrong with the pseudo-Fundamentalist position.
 In this book Dr. Spence shows that Scriptural separation is the basis of doctrinal purity and is essential to it. Therefore, pseudo-Fundamentalism, which refuses to be governed by the Scriptural commands concerning separation from compromise, unbelief, and apostasy, also results in the corruption and ultimate destruction of the purity of Scriptural doctrine.

Scriptural Separation

My desire in this unpretentious manuscript is to present a "principia" handbook for Christian students and teachers in the light of their generation's music. Five chapters are dedicated to biblical principles in the context of our contemporary. Biblical principles must be seen before we will see what is happening both in the world and, more specifically, in the conservative churches across our land. If these early chapters are not read, the following chapters will reap no true appreciation and understanding, for out of "principle" comes "conviction;" otherwise conviction is simply a bias or prejudicial belief. The remaining chapters will focus on the subject of music itself. Three chapters deal with the history and philosophy of secular rock, a more pointed analogy of the world-wide powerful influence of the Beatles, and the rise of deva music in rock culture. Another chapter presents the history of music through church history, followed by a chapter presenting the birth and growth of "Gospel Music," and the final chapter deals with the history and present trends in Fundamentalist music. A "Postlude" concludes my thoughts in the light of a present need and future hope. . . .
 The title of the book, Confronting Contemporary Christian Music, may seem somewhat forthright. But we are living in a time when this music has the manner of Goliath, the uncircumcised Philistine, coming before the Camp of God. As young David of old, the giant CCM must be confronted with the stones from the brook of God's Word. It is not only a philosophical battle; it is a spiritual one. May God dispel the fear and timidity among His people, so that they may rise up and confront this carnal, uncircumcised music invading our churches, for it is bold in its sounds and unseparated in its message.

Crucial Truths for Crucial Days, Vol. 2

In these postmodern days of sweeping changes in the churches across the world, the concept of doctrine has been caught in the throes of change as well. The contemporary Church has entered into an existential form of thinking that abhors the absoluteness of dogma and doctrine. This absoluteness is contrary to the subjectivity that public Christianity has fully embraced; it is truly a generation where "everyone does that which is right in his own eyes." It is therefore imperative that the Christian remnant remain true to that which has been committed unto them: the Word of God, the Bible, the Scriptures. This sacred writing is the only infallible revelation of God on the planet, given by God for humanity. If this revelation is rejected, we have no hope of surety or acceptance before God. It is with this hope, and in the light of this hope, that this publication is sent forth as a compendium of the truth of doctrine. It has been written in a catechetical form, though expanded in its answers to present a more detailed response. Nevertheless, it does not pretend to express the fulness of truth that must come with further study. These studies were presented over a year during the Sunday Bible classes at Foundations Bible Collegiate Church. May the Lord bless this compilation for the next generation and prove it to be a blessing to the Christian remnant around the world.

A Catechetical Study for the Remnant

Our spiritual lives should be lives of ascent. Certainly the pinnacle of our spiritual walk is not something which is achieved all at once. Our spiritual experiences with the Lord can be described as different degrees, as a series of steps, as varying stages of growth. The Christian life is to be a continual advancing, a continual going forward and going upward. We should never be standing still; if we remain stationary in one experience or become stranded at one stage, we will find that our spiritual lives suffer and become frustrated.
