It's realizing that you've chosen an incarnation in order to gain a certain experience. We call this experience our True Will. This book details one woman's journey and magickal struggle to fulfill the Adeptus Minor's first obligation, which is learning how to use a Bullshit Meter. On Getting a Bullshit Meter is as much an example of a critical piece of one Adept's Adeptus Minor (Outer) work as it is a description of it. As a result it is sometimes very raw. Cornelius had to work through intense shame and anger at having allowed herself to be swindled by a Carlos-Castaneda-copy, "Toltec" cult leader with whom she had been involved before she joined the A.'.A.'. Any cult leader spends almost his entire life clashing with others, intentionally making them feel as though they cannot live without him, intentionally making them planets around his star instead of allowing them to be the stars they were meant to be. Indirectly his entire goal is to foster 'Restriction' in his students, which is the greatest sin of Thelema, the spiritual philosophy of which Crowley is the prophet. The process of getting a Bullshit Meter opens up this former 'black box' of beliefs and attitudes, exposing the ego as a construct and giving the Adept an opportunity to correct those parts built on a faulty foundation. This new edition has a lengthy preface by J. Edward Cornelius, also Magister Templi in the A.'.A.'., explaining the Wagnerian Grail mythos and why Achad's book is so important. The composer Richard Wagner wrote the most influential 'magickal' version of the quest for the Holy Grail which he titled Parsifal. Frater Achad (Charles Stansfeld Jones 1886-1950), a Magister Templi 8=3 in Aleister Crowley's A.'.A.'., published his unique understanding of this play in a book titled The Chalice of Ecstasy (1923). He interpreted Wagner's Parsifal from a Thelemic point-of-view, showing the original story akin to an A.'.A.'.Adept's journey from a beginner or Probationer 0=0 to crossing the Abyss and becoming a Magister Templi 8=3 using as examples the writings of Aleister Crowley and others. Unfortunately Achad gives no sources to the dozens upon dozens of quotes throughout his book, nor does he explain many of his obscure terms, but Cornelius identifies all and adds almost ninety footnotes which help illuminate the spiritual journey portrayed in this classic Thelemic text. Chalice of Ecstasy: Being A Mystical, Magical and Qabalistic Interpretation of the Drama of Parsifal

A collection of essays of the McMurtry-Cornelius lineage of Aleister Crowley's A.'.A.'. The essays were written by J. Edward and Erica M Cornelius. Many were written in response to a student's request for information which they deemed not clearly explained in Crowley's writings. Since many students ask the same questions, J. Edward Cornelius started writing his replies in the form of essays which could later be handed out or emailed to other students who might be asking the same if not similar questions. In this light the essays run the gamut of thought from easy magickal foundational information to more intricate theories related to the Qabalistic spheres on the Tree of Life in which the student resides. It is also important to note that some of these essays were written to male students, while others were written to female students. The Aleister Crowley Primer: For Those Who Are Willing to be Shunned

Changing of the Guard covers the extremely colorful, shocking, and at times hilarious events around two basic efforts of its author, J. Edward Cornelius. The first effort was to spearhead Ordo Templi Orientis' (OTO's) successful lawsuit against the City of Berkeley, California and Alameda County, California. The OTO sued these government entities for perpetrating a police raid motivated by religious intolerance against those whom they deemed "devil worshippers." At this time period in the United States, nervous Christians imagined Satanists performing human sacrifices in every backyard and basement-and of course they identified every occult or non-Christian group as Satanic. This was a time of mass-paranoia and witch-hunting, with tragic consequences for many of the falsely accused when Thelema Lodge, OTO and other locations in the Bay Area were raided during a botched police raid looking for drugs, guns and underaged runaways. Cornelius was one of several people who was arrested and who was instrumental in fighting and winning this morally important victory. The second effort that Cornelius details in this book was the OTO's attempt to reform the Bay Area's Thelema Lodge (formerly Grand Lodge) to be an orderly, dignified representation of Crowley's Order. Oh, the stories Cornelius tells in this book! It all started when newly-elected OTO leader (X°) William Breeze convinced Cornelius to serve as Lodge Master of Thelema Lodge, much to the chagrin of the self-styled Bay Area "Community." Before Cornelius even arrived in California from the East Coast he was resented and rejected by said "Community." Hijinks and push-back ensued: crazy Masses, thefts, lice outbreaks, and in-fighting that caused-you guessed it-the most expensive lawsuit to that date in the OTO's history (see above). Cornelius' stories are definitely some that the OTO wishes would remain buried, but they reflect the bigger picture of which these flamboyant and scandalous events are but a microcosm.
