Since emerging as a young California artist in the late 1960s, John M. White has focused on performance art, installations, and drawing and painting. This exhibition catalog for a major retrospective combines the artist's creative actions (performances, installations and sculptures) with paintings and drawings related to the performances. In White's primarily autobiographical work, he mines his personal environment, resulting in intriguing visuals that hint at contained narratives. White has staged hundreds of public performances and his works are included in numerous collections, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum.

Craig Kauffman: A Retrospective of Drawings (with DVD)

Internationally renowned installation performance artist Richard Jackson provided one of the more spectacular moments from the performance series sponsored by the Getty s Pacific Standard Time initiative. Re- enacting a piece from the 1970s, Jackson crashed a radio-controlled, 15 foot wingspan model airplane filled with paint into a 20 foot high wall emblazoned with the phrase accidents in abstract painting. Featuring dramatic photo images of the accident, the six hour set up, and the subsequent installation of its detritus at the Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena, this unique exhibition catalog is an artifact of the event and its aftermath. Also included are a lengthy interview with Jackson and a QR code that links to further video documentation.

At only 64 pages, this catalog is small but the story it tells is huge: it documents the thirty-plus years that Robert Rauschenberg created prints and multiples at Gemini G.E.L., the world-famous print house in Los Angeles. From 1967 through 2001, working with Gemini owners Sidney Felsen and Stanley Grinstein,Rauschenberg pushed the boundaries of printmaking like no other contemporaryartist before or since. All of Rauschenberg s most celebrated Gemini G.E.L. prints, print series and multiples such as Booster, the artist s famous X-ray self-portrait are illustrated in this essential volume. Also included are prints using his photographs of Los Angeles, multiples created in France, India, China, and from his travels with the Rauschenberg Overseas Cultural Interchange, as well as works created for political or environmental causes including the first Earth Day in 1970. Southern California artist Steve Roden is known as more than a painter; his internationally acclaimed, multi-media sound-driven works use musical scores that offer him a set of options to compose a segment of painting, sculpture, or other formal composition. This template results in a startlingly diverse array of images, objects, sounds and spaces. Roden's every artwork, whatever its form, is both familiar yet utterly unexpected. He's an eccentric virtuoso whose paintings look abstract, but only in the way that a chair, a tree, a face or even a Pop-Tart becomes abstract the longer you look at it. In Los Angeles in the 1960s and 1970s, Wallace Berman, founder of the influential artist journal Semina, and Robert Heinecken, who established UCLA's photography department, were kindred spirits. Both reveled in appropriating and juxtaposing images and text, using as a point of departure the art of the historical avant-garde, updating its subjects, techniques, and irreverent stance for contemporary use. This catalog in the form of a treasure box brings Berman and Heinecken together for the first time. It is packed with images, reproductions, ephemera, a DVD and essays that capture the random spirit of innovation that permeated this important era in Southern California. These two artists bridged modernist and emerging post-modernist trends, ushering in the use of photography as a key element of the contemporary avant-garde art.

Exhibition catalog for After Victor Papanek: The Future is Not What it Used to Be - the group exhibition at the Armory Center for the Arts which asserted Papanek s pioneering influence on sustainable, socially responsible, human-centered design that is keenly relevant to current discourses in contemporary art. The show featured works by Dave Hullfish Bailey, Camlab, Ken Ehrlich and Mathias Heyden, Rafa Esparza, Robby Herbst, Olga Koumoundouros, Liz Nurenberg, and Michael Parker, and was guest curated by Jeff Cain. The exhibition ran from Sunday, May 10 through Sunday, September 6, 2015.
