In the book the author provides the first comprehensive view of Walter Ong's thought, but he also shows the importance of Walter J. Ong in the contemporary intellectual landscape. Whereas most scholars are quite content to make a significant intellectual contribution in one field, Walter Ong has made such a contribution in some five or more disciplines: literary studies, communication, theology and religious studies, psychology, intellectual history, and linguistics.
