John Ermine Of The Yellowstone

John Ermine of the Yellowstone (1902) An epic Western that captures the conflict between European Americans and Native Americans in the Wild West. John Ermine is caught between two cultures, unable to assimilate fully into either. As a child, he was abandoned, found by the Crow Indian tribe and raised as one of their own. As an adolescent, “White Weasel” is taken to see Crooked-Bear, a white man who counsels the Crow elders. Under Crooked-Bear’s tutelage, White Weasel is schooled and rechristened John Ermine before being reintroduced into white society. He becomes a scout in the military and is infatuated with a white woman named Katherine Searles. But Ermine faces the inequalities of American society.
