Rosenbach Abroad: In Pursuit of Books in Private Collections

The Rosenbach Museum & Library here presents many of its best-known volumes & re-examines oft-told tales of the Rosenbach brothers (Philip & Dr. A.S.W.) & their legendary buying & selling of remarkable books. As a result of extensive research in the Rosenbach Company Archive & in the papers of English libraries & collectors, Leslie Morris has reconstructed the Rosenbachs famous purchases from the Holford, Phillipps, & York Minster collections in considerable detail & has compiled -- for the first time -- checklists of the 297 individual titles acquired by the Rosenbach Co. in these private treaty sales. This exhibition could include only a selection of volumes from the complete checklists. Illustrations.
