Rosenwald and Rosenbach: Two Philadelphia Bookmen

Catalogue of an Exhibition at the Rosenbach Mus. & Lib., Phila., from the Lessing J. Rosenwald Collection at the Lib. of Congress. In 1922 Lessing J. Rosenwald strolled into the Walnut Street bookshop of Dr. A.S.W. Rosenbach. As though predestined, they soon formed an incomparable team: Dr. Rosenbach happily luring treasure after treasure across the Atlantic to Walnut Street, & Rosenwald happily escorting them a few miles farther, to Jenkintown. So, in due course, a Phila. suburb became world-renowned as the home of the greatest collection of illustrated books & prints in private hands. Ultimately given by Lessing to the nation, this magnificent achievement is now permanently installed in the Lib. of Congress & the Nat. Gallery of Art. Illus.
