Energy and the future (AAAS miscellaneous publication)

Energy is the basic natural resource. To the consumer, it is the commodity they buy as gasoline, natural gas and electricity. To engineers, it is the heat for industrial furnaces or the motive force that powers machinery. To the economist, energy is a key ingredient in national prosperity. Without energy, man would be at that the mercy of the environment.
