Gisonne Michaelis, 36th century specialist in group dynamics, organizes and joins a SPEEDship crew charged with two critical missions: test the evolution of the ship's new carbon-based Operating System and transport Diana Allain, heir to the Zalterius II ruling family, to Quivera in a race against time -- literally -- to secure their home world's economic and ecological survival. After launch the crew is horrified to learn that the SPEEDship autopilot has been irreversibly reset, sending them on an endless journey. The OS evolves unexpectedly and reprograms the faster-than-light speedship towards a planet in the distant DeMaiollon system inhabited by Corvi, a sentient and ominous saurian species. The crew struggles to survive, to learn how the Corvi sensed the OS and took their ship, to understand a link between Corvi and humans, and to win a life-or-death battle.
