THE TRUE GOD OF THE SACRED SCRIPTURES Superexcessively above and beyond the best intentions of the amiable adventurer of Christendom, who wants to save everybody but is unable to do so, the True God has a purpose worthy of the One Who created the universe and all the life that is in it. He is Supreme. In the Hebrew Scriptures, He is El which means Subjector; in the Greek Scriptures, He is Theos which means Placer. He is the Supreme Subjector and Placer of all. He “wills that all mankind be saved and come into a realization of the truth” (I Timothy 2:4), and He is “operating all in accord with the counsel of His will” (Ephesians 1:11). The will of the Almighty is paramount. There is no man or spirit who can withstand it. He is “Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure” (Isaiah 46:10). What do we know of God’s essential being? He is Spirit (John 4:24), He is Light (I John 1:5), and He is Love (I John 4:8). Since all is out of God (Romans 11:36), then creation is out of Spirit, Light, and Love—Love which purposes, Light which reveals, and Spirit which energizes. Can we even imagine Spirit and Light intending a final darkness for much of humanity? Can we entertain for a second that Love will take pleasure in even a single creature’s unending anguish? Let us consider these very direct and simple words from the apostle Paul: Faithful is the saying and worthy of all welcome (for for this are we toiling and being reproached), that we rely on the living God, Who is the Saviour of all mankind, especially of believers. These things be charging and teaching (I Timothy 4:9-11). Perhaps in all the annals of human history, no declaration so deserving of acceptance has been so neglected or opposed as this—that God is the Saviour of all mankind. Yet, as we see from the context, the assertion that the living God, or True God, is the Saviour of all mankind, especially of believers, is faithful; that is, unfailing and dependable. The saying is worthy of all welcome. This means we should embrace it and believe it. True, all of God’s words are faithful and call for eager acceptance within their context, but here is a saying marked off with special emphasis and magnified with special importance. Paul further instructs Timothy to be charging and teaching this marvelous precept. This means it is a foundational truth of Christianity. The True God, the Supreme Subjector and Placer, is not just the Saviour of a few, or of some, or of many, or of most, but of all mankind. It is clear also from the context that believers, members of the body of Christ, enjoy an especial place—not an exclusive one—in the plans and purpose of the True God. The details will astound you. Off comes the cloak of dogma, creeds, and mistranslations revealing the True God Who has always been there in the Sacred Scriptures: The Supreme Spirit of Light and Love.

"That day, the 21st of April, 1861, will ever be memorable in the history of Baltimore, less for the events it brought than for the feeling it disclosed. For nearly half a century, no enemy had menaced the city or State, and a generation had grown up, that, for the most part, knew nothing of war but by report. Yet, no sooner was it known that an armed force was approaching, bent, if not on the destruction of the city, at least on forcing a passage through, than the whole population rose up as by a single impulse to resist the invasion. "There was no question of party or class; all differences, all distinctions, were merged in the common feeling. Boys stood beside graybeards. Republican shouldered democrat, merchants and professional men touched elbows with mechanics and laborers, in the rank of the citizen soldiery. Volunteers came hurrying in from the counties, eager to share in the perils of the conflict." Those words from J. Thomas Scharf's three volume "History of Maryland" (1876) describe the first significant bloodshed in the War between the States - "The patriotic gore that flecked the streets of Baltimore" (from our State song, "Maryland My Maryland," written in reaction to the Union outrages by James Ryder Randall). A noble cause, yet Federal dictatorship in Maryland, including the arrest and imprisonment of our legislators, and military rule in Baltimore, had Jefferson Davis write after the war: "The border State of Maryland was the outpost of the South on the frontier first to be approached by Northern invasion. The first demonstration against State sovereignty was to be made there, and in her fate were the other slaveholding States of the border to have warning of what they were to expect . . . Henceforth the story of Maryland is sad to the last degree, only relieved by the gallant men who left their homes to fight the battle of States rights when Maryland no longer furnished them a field on which they could maintain the rights their fathers left them. This was a fate doubly sad to the sons of the heroic men who, under the designation of the 'Maryland Line,' did so much in our Revolutionary struggle to secure the independence of the States; of the men who, at a later day, fought the battle of North Point; of the people of a land which had furnished so many heroes and statesmen, and gave the great Chief Justice Taney to the Supreme Court of the United States."     Elvis Presley, Jr. came to Broadneck, between the Severn and Magothy Rivers in Maryland, in March of 2010 looking for his father. He hired me as advertising director for the publication he called the Broadneck Baloney—a print medium to make his purpose known. We published the first of our 36 issues in June of that year. Some locals said that they had spotted Elvis Sr. at Cape Ace, Fairwinds Marina, Whimsicality, and even at Noreen’s Boutique Spa. Those locals were all liars who gave false hope to a very good man. Elvis Jr. endured cruel joke after cruel joke about his father such as “What was Elvis’ last great hit? The bathroom floor.” And “What’s the difference between Elvis Sr. and a Broadneck intellectual? One day we might find a Broadneck intellectual.” One Cape jokester swore he met Elvis Sr. right here on Broadneck, and that the great singer presented him with new lyrics to “Return to Sender” with a new title: “Return to Vendor”: I bought a wiener from the vendor He put it on a bun But I had to take it back cuz The wiener wasn’t done Return to vendor Hot dog undone Not enough mustard Soggy bun How nasty! Such insensitive mockery! That is what Elvis Jr., as editor of the Baloney, lived with day in and day out. In June of 2015, just after the publication of what would be our final issue, Elvis Jr. disappeared. Some say he moved to Memphis to be near Graceland. Some say he moved to Hollywood. Others say he intended to go to both these places, but got no farther than Edgewater. In a way, I sort of dedicate this book to him, and all he has done in a literary vein for the caring people of Broadneck. We miss him. We want to see him again.
