The works in Innovation/Imagination are all selected from the Polaroid Collection. Included here are more than 80 colorplates of Polaroids by such diverse artists as Ansel Adams, Robert Frank, Nancy Burson, Robert Mapplethorpe, Chuck Close, Lucas Samaras, and William Wegman. Their photographs display the artistic inventiveness and technical achievement made possible by Polaroid film and present an overview of the past 50 years in photography. The photographs are accompanied by an essay placing Polaroid in historical context, and comments by the photographers themselves offer insights into how Polaroid has affected their art. A chronology provides more information on important Polaroid achievements.

The first book ever on the Bedford Flag, the oldest existing flag in the United States. The author researched and describes: when the flag was made (1704), where it was made (England), who ordered it (The Bedford Minutemen, Massachusetts), and what impact this flag has had on the American history. The book is illustrated with photographs of the original flag and has numerous illustrations, documenting the origen of the flag. The book is printed in 5 colors, the cover has an imbossed image of the flag.

This is a signed and numbered limited edition of Private Views. It includes one modern 4 x 6 inch color print. In the early 1980s, Barbara Crane embarked on a series of photographs shot during Chicago's various summer festivals. Using a Super Speed Graphic camera and Polaroid film, Crane waded in close to the revelers, tracking down the details of their clothing, hairstyles and gestures. The images are tightly cropped and condensed and therefore terrifically alive, bringing us viscerally into the crush of people eating, drinking and enjoying the crowd dynamic. Crane's instrument of choice, the Polaroid, is of course admirably up to the task. As she comments, "The quick feedback of the instant picture is in tune with this energetic style of photographing. This immediacy of result shortens the time it would take my ideas to grow visually, technically and emotionally. What takes a summer of work with Polaroid materials would take three years of picture taking and darkroom time to bring my ideas to fruition." An incredible inventory of private gestures performed in public spaces, Private Views offers a sun-drenched, sweat-glistening photographic experience--not of a particular event or personalities, but of something less tangible: the public expression of euphoria.

Anna Tomczak's studio is her "safe haven," her sanctuary, and a space into which she invites others. Throughout her artistic journey, Tomczak has discovered kindred spirits in her colleagues. 
She describes friend and fellow photographer, Merry Moor Winnett, with whom she was a darkroom-mate and, together, they explored the possibilities of hand painting black-and-white photographs. Tomczak notes other important artists in her life, including Margaret Ross Tolbert and Phil Parker, both of whom she met through "Mother Art" Dorothy Johnson, art supervisor and initiator of the Volusia County Florida Artists-in-Schools Residency Program.
Tomczak has fostered artistic development by hosting workshops in her studio and leading trips abroad. She has been influential in artist-residencies in public schools and the Southeast Museum of Photography, Daytona Beach Community College, Florida.
Anna Tomczak's work has been featured in the Brooklyn Museum of Art, Florida Gulf Coast Museum of Art, Museum of Florida Art, Norton Museum of Art, Polaroid Collections, Polk Museum of Art, and Sony Latin-America.

In the late 1960s, Polaroid Corporation founder Edwin Land initiated a project to invite more than 800 artists around the world to shoot on Polaroid film, supplying them with the company's latest products. Over the ensuing decades, more than 4,500 works, by photographers ranging from Ansel Adams to Andy Warhol, were presented to the company and found their way into Polaroid's International Collection at their European headquarters near Frankfurt am Main. In 2008 Polaroid went bankrupt. The company was bought by the Impossible Project (who promptly invented a new kind of instant film at the Polaroid factory in Enschede) and its legendary collection was acquired by the Westlicht Schauplatz museum in Vienna. From Polaroid to Impossible celebrates both this acquisition and the launch of a new Polaroid collection spearheaded by Westlicht and the Impossible Project. It offers the first overview of the European Polaroid Collection, and includes selected Polaroid masterpieces by figures such as Ansel Adams, Barbara Crane, Giselle Freund, Gottfried Helnwein, Sally Mann, Robert Mapplethorpe, Helmut Newton, Stephen Shore, Aaron Siskind, Andy Warhol, William Wegman and Minor White; artists like Miyako Ishiuchi, Andreas Mahl and Catherine Wagner, who made specialties of the medium; plus newly commissioned Impossible instant photography by contemporary artists such as Nobuyoshi Araki, David Leventhal, Mary Ellen Mark and Stefanie Schneider. Numerous images are reproduced in full color at 1:1 scale, making this volume a luscious and giftworthy celebration of the charm of the Polaroid photograph.
