<p>This catalogue presents the work of one of the leading personalities of contemporary Chinese art and embraces a fundamental period of Fang's artistic research with a series of paintings portraying daily life in the Forbidden City. His large canvases are timeless works of art, in which his profound knowledge of Chinese history and tradition merge with a technique that owes a great deal to his study of the great 17th century European maestros. In September 2004, Fang was the first modern artist to present many of his paintings inside the Forbidden City, in a scenario of continuous references between the real city and the portrayed one.
