Anish Kapoor is one of the world's most renowned and influential sculptors. Born in Bombay, he has lived and worked in London since the early 1970s. His output ranges from works on a human scale, including powdered pigment sculptures and convex mirrors, to massive installations, both inside buildings and in the landscape. 
Taking on the challenge of the cavernous space of the Turbine Hall at the Tate Modern in London, Kapoor created his largest sculpture ever: built of PVC membrane, stetched taut across massive steel hoops and hovering in mid-air, the sculpture dominates the space in a way no other artist has attempted. - Forty of Martin Szekely's elegant and enigmatic designs are documented in this catalog for an exhibition at the mus e des Arts d coratifs et du Design (MADD - Bordeaux) from 26 April to 7 October 2018 - All the furniture has been created between 1996 and 2018, offering an up-to-date perspective on his career French designer Martin Szekely's enigmatic furniture and objects are the result of formal structural challenges, observation, and analysis. Experimenting with both new and traditional materials, he approaches each project as a new inquiry into the essence of the built world. The designer's furniture and objects are embodiments of his meditations on the nature of balance, and are based on data concerning mass, gravity and networks of forces, most often invisible to the naked eye. For Szekely, building is the very essence of the designer's profession: "I see my practice from the builder's perspective, considering the use that will be made of my construction; this immediately involves the user, his body and his environment." What is built - which is the designer's domain unlike the artist for whom ideas suffice - calls on the history of structures and the technologies that underlie them. This catalog, for a show of forty pieces at the musee des Arts d coratifs et du Design, highlights Szekely's elegant mix of craftsmanship and high tech, raw materiality and high culture.
