In this new collection of poems, John David Ebert traces the morphological arc of the rise and fall of civilizations in two halves: poems of genesis that see the world as a wondrous gleam of emergent arcs and living gods who create the forms of nature and then vanish from the scene; and poems of degeneration, in which technology comes to function as a supplement for the vanishing of the once creative gods, providing artificial sources for creative energy, such as cloning, genetic engineering and the technological capturing and enframing of the earth in gleaming metallic apparatuses of capture. The book traces the lines of these morphic flows and watches the shifting curvature of the earth as it moves from an age of wonder and mystery to an age of depletion and apocalyptic destruction of planetary flows.
