In the build up to WWI, with flying in its infancy, Britain found itself with an immediate need for pilots, aircraft and airfields in order to make full use of the advantages which flying brought to their forces. By the end of the conflict, over 500 military sites, ranging from fully operational aerodromes, airship stations, seaplane stations, acceptance parks, kite balloon stations and aircraft factories were built together with non-flying stations such as group and wing HQs. Once hostilities ceased, the majority were once again decommissioned.Organized by county using OS map references, each of these airfields is examined with details provided on period of use, units and current purpose including remaining remnants of the period. Alongside the Spitfire and Lancaster, the DH82 Tiger Moth biplane is one of the few aircraft that even the non-enthusiast can identify at first glance. 
This recognition comes in part the Tiger's amazing longevity--first flown in 1931, the Tiger Moth was still in active military service in the 1960s, when Royal Navy Tigers were flying on and off aircraft carriers. Easy to fly, but difficult to fly well, the Tiger was first used as a trainer but it had also been used as glider tug, crop sprayer, film "stunt" plane and wing walker platform. In 1940 Tiger Moths were even fitted with anti-personnel bombs and the Tiger also flew on floats and from catapult launchers. 
With over 8,000 built, the Tiger saw service with almost every British and Commonwealth air force, as well as being exported to air forces in South America, the Middle East and the Pacific. The Tiger also saw service in civilian flying clubs around the world and even today, at least 250 Tiger Moths remain airworthy.

Deadly Duo is a highly photographic review covering two of the most fascinating medium bombers of WWII, the North American B-25 Mitchell and the Martin B-26 Marauder. The North American B-25 was a boxy appearing, stable performing plane with a structure capable of absorbing major redesign and field modifications. Its rugged, forgiving nature allowed use in the difficult South Pacific where crude landing strips, supply shortages and ground-level attack missions were daily occurrences. Its modifications ranged from lightened photo reconnaissance planes to 12- and 14-gun models with nose-mounted cannon. The Martin B-26, on the other hand, was a very streamlined, state-of-the-art aircraft. Its short wingspan, big engines, and enormous bomb bay resulted in a high speed aerial hot rod... the type of plane a pilot had to fly all the time. Limited prop clearance, long runway requirements and demanding maintenance needs ruled out the South Pacific, so Europe became the battle ground over which the B-26 saw action. Although initial experiences were marginal at best, eventual modifications to the aircraft and changes in combat tactics resulted in the B-26 compiling one of the better survival records of the war.
