With a hard-hearted captain and a mutinous crew, this was never going to be an easy voyage. When Royle spots a vessel foundering at sea, the trouble really starts and he is forced to chose between duty and conscience.  The Wreck of the “Grosvenor” is perhaps William Clark Russell’s most famous book. John Sutherland, Emeritus Professor of Modern English Literature at University College London described this as “the most popular mid-Victorian melodrama of adventure and heroism at sea”.
