Seltmann+Soehne

Werner Amann's photographic long-term project, which began in 1996 and in 2009 ended. The photographs were taken in the U.S. cities of Los Angeles, New York, Las Vegas, Gainesville, Miami and Kansas City, as well as in the border city of Tijuana, Mexico and the desert areas of the American West.

American: 1996-2009

Dynamism, rigor, drama, nostalgia, sweat, stories of heroes and defeats as well as a whiff of wickedness - the world of boxing attracts a lot of photographers, writers, and the perceived better society. Women have long since affirmed their place in this male domain and enhanced boxing with their own feminine tone. Anja Schori is herself a boxer and takes part in competitions. Thus it made sense to get closer to her sport with the camera. She initially wanted to photograph male trainers, but things don't tend to go too well with men. Thus she focused her camera right on her comrades in gender and training partners. In her photographs, she confidently emphasizes feminity, mixing documental boxing scenes with fashionable staging, reality with fiction, black & white with color, sharpness with blurs - all in her magazine BOX. It's all about boxing, of course, but a boxer's black eye can also be presented to us here in the form of an eye-patch worn by an attractive brunette woman.

The Balkans is presented in a way that dispenses with all the usua lclichés in these magnifi cent coffee-table books by the Sieckmeyers, a husband and wife team.

Winnerbook Fotobookfestival Kassel 2012. Michelle und Carmen Catuti got to know each other in Dortmund, where Michelle is known all over the city for his eccentric appearance. As such, he also stirred the interest of a young photographer, who had been studying in Dortmund for some time. Per her request, he allowed her to portray him over the course of several months. Her initial attempts to peek behind his staged veneer were met by Michelle with unbelievable stories about his life and extravagant poses in front of the camera. From meeting to meeting, Carmen Catuti's usual technique began to falter more and more, and the portraits turned into power struggles. Her subtle backgrounds and calm aesthetic were opposed by Michelle's efforts to present himself in his own way. By and by she decided to play along and submit to his ideas. In so doing, pictures emerge that show Michelle in the way he wants to be viewed. This kind of self-empowerment is what defines Michelle as a modern person. As such, he is now visible as an image.

The photographer couple Hanne Malat and Frank van Groen take us on an adventure through the diverse landscapes of Norway away from the main tourist trails. The photographs deliver amazing, unexpected insights into the raw and unspoiled nature of this nordic country. At the beginning of each chapter, excerpts of the couple's travel diary both in German and English and personal snapshots let us take part in their journey. Thus, we get to experience not only the spectacular landscapes on photograph, but also the emotions behind the images. The large-format landscape stills were photographed over the course of five years, between 2008 and 2012, on a total of seven trips, in different regions and seasons.

On their over 2 800-mile journey across Morocco, they take pictures of many desert sons who have tuned their bikes and mopeds: colourful carpets and flashy stickers decorate the locals' bikes they are speeding along the breakneck routes with. Two-wheelers mean mobility for the young Moroccans. But that's not all: like in any other culture, motorcycles symbolise freedom and independence. Numerous fantastic pictures show the desert rebels with their bikes. Just as fascinating as the social and cultural contrasts is the landscape diversity, as the pictures also capture the beauty of Morocco's rougher regions.
