When it was sold at auction in 1998, the drawing La Bella Principessa ("The Beautiful Princess") was listed as an anonymous 19th-century German work, created in homage to Renaissance art. Suspecting that this incomparable drawing might actually be the work of Leonardo da Vinci, Martin Kemp subjected it to a variety of forensic tests, the results of which make a strong case for the piece's authenticity. In this exhibition catalogue, Kemp explains his working methods and relates the intriguing history of this drawing, which is shown here in 34 color reproductions, including some two-page close-ups as large as 13 x 17 inches.
