This work examines the ongoing perceptions and ill-conceived notions of both Black and White Christians, as it relates to tradition and familial worship habits, the understanding of sacred and secular domains, and the role that color and culture play in the separation of religious worshippers. I Shall Not Be Moved challenges the reader to examine the issue presented based upon a biblical mandate for unity, reconciliation, and love within the body of Christ. Taking into consideration today's multiethnic, multiracial, and otherwise diverse national demographics the church still exist primarily along the color and cultural divide. This divide is deeply rooted in American religious history, culture and tradition. Ultimately, the question Professor Terriel R. Byrd seeks to answer in this work is: Does this separation hinder the Christian teachings of inclusion and unity?

Navy Captain Pete Adler has arrived at the pinnacle of a US Navy career. He is the commanding officer of an aircraft carrier. The first time he takes the ship to sea, a huge fire breaks out and threatens the survival of the ship and its crew of thousands. Many in Pete's crew perform heroic and noble deeds, and the carrier is saved. But there is no rest for Pete and the crew. They must repair the ship and make their scheduled deployment date. Again the crew responds heroically. In the midst of the repair effort, Pete's father dies. When he is at home for the funeral, he learns the nobility of some deeds is but skin-deep.
