Henry VIII (28 June 1491 � 28 January 1547) was King of England and Lord of Ireland (later King of Ireland) from 22 April 1509 until his death. He was the second monarch of the Tudor dynasty, succeeding his father, Henry VII. He is famous for having been married six times and for wielding the most untrammelled power of any British monarch. Notable events during his reign included the break with Rome and the subsequent establishment of the independent Church of England, the Dissolution of the Monasteries, and the union of England and Wales. Henry is known to have been an avid gambler and dice player. He excelled at sport, especially royal tennis, during his youth. He was also an accomplished musician, author, and poet; according to legend, he wrote the popular folk song "Greensleeves". He was also involved in the construction and improvement of several buildings, including King's College Chapel, Christ Church, Oxford, Hampton Court Palace, Nonsuch Palace and Westminster Abbey. This slim but detailed volume provides the main events, wives and details of Henry VIII's life and rule. 40 photographs, mostly colour, are featured aside the text on high-quality paper stock.

Absolutely gorgeous guide/souvenir book/English literary history concerning Alice Liddell, the daughter of the Dean of Christ Church and the friendship that developed with Lewis Carroll, the Oxford mathematics don who eventually used this gorgeous little girl as the inspiration for the Alice books. Superb color paintings, b&amp;w Victorian photos throughout. Here is a celebration of a young girl who eventually became immortalized in a series of children's books that are read to this very day. The text is written by Mavis Batey. This is a lovely item, with great artwork, 32 pages.

The city of Cambridge is a university town and the administrative centre of the county of Cambridgeshire, England. It lies in East Anglia, on the River Cam, about 50 miles (80 km) north of London. According to the United Kingdom Census 2001, its population was 108,863 (including 22,153 students), and was estimated to be 125,717 in mid-2010.There is archaeological evidence of settlement in the area in bronze age and Roman times, and under Viking rule Cambridge became an important trading centre. The first town charters were granted in the 12th century, although city status was not conferred until 1951. HMS Victory is a 104-gun first-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, laid down in 1759 and launched in 1765.
