This volume is the ninth report in the series of final publications of the excavations and studies of the Vasilikos Valley Project in the Larnaca District adjacent to the southern coast of Cyprus. The volume contains details of the sites discovered during the course of the field survey of the Vasilikos valley. Analyses of the settlement pattern in the various periods and of the artifacts found on the sites will be presented in VVP 10. While it was originally hoped that the field survey would cover every area of the Vasilikos valley, it became apparent early in the field work that a sampling procedure had to be adopted. The number of sites of different periods was much greater than originally anticipated, and sufficient project staff members were not available for an adequate length of time to render complete coverage feasible.

"Minoan seals have often been described as probelmatically ambiguous. By assembling and reframing current discourse, this volume challenges the value of characterising glyptic imagery in this way. Istead ambiguity may indicate the presence of deliberate practice, incorporateing varied meaning through multivalent or condensed expression, well suited to the compact size of the glyptic medium. Using a form of relational network theory, the author explores the ways in which a selection of glyptic images from Ayia Triada respond to different coneptual and associative contexts and suggests that the idea of indeterminate ambiguity--as a by-product of western taxonomic systems--may mask this multivalent aspect. "The 'Ochsenkrater-Grab' from Nicosia Ayia Paraskevi in Cyprus has long been known but never fully documented. Named after the Mycenaean IIIB crater decorated with bulls included amongst its contents, the presumed tomb group was acquired by Max Ohnefalsch-Richter in the 1880s and subsequently sold to the Kèonigliche, now Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, Germany, where part of what is left of it remains. For the first time all the objects, which originally numbered more than 150, have been catalogued, drawingon personal examination as well as published and archival information.
