WASHINGTON'S FRIDAY NIGHT DANCE is the largest and longest-running contra dance in the area. From a modest beginning in 1974 in downtown Washington, its growth was later encouraged when it moved to the Spanish Ballroom at Glen Echo Park in the early 1980s.
