Reel Work: Artist's Film and Video of the 1970's brings together film and video (primarily tapes) created by some of the best known visual and performance artists during a very rich decade for experimentation with moving images. The artists included are often more renowned for their work in other media, but they picked up cameras in the seventies and created art that was new in both concept and execution. This catalogue focuses on the reemergence of painting in the 1980s and its critical reception at the time. This examination of the decade of the 1980s is not an arbitrary chronological focus: 1979 was a watershed year that marked the return of painting, a medium long considered dead. Painting's return to the forefront of art making seriously compromised the dominant, modernist belief in the progress of art. This catalogue has been published for the exhibition Roy Lichtenstein: Inside/Outside. Organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami and curated by Bonnie Clearwater. 
In the early 1960s, several artists, working independent of one another, simultaneously began making paintings based on comic strips, commercial printing, and advertisements. The popular subject matter, commercial graphic design techniques and reference to mass production were dominant features of work by such artists as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, James Rosenquist and Jim Dine, whom critics, curators and art dealers quickly grouped together as representing a new art movement. POP ART was the name British art critic Lawerence Alloway coined for this movement, and this short memorable name and the categorization of these artists as Pop artists stuck.

Frankenthaler Paintings on Paper is a 114 page hard cover book with (71) beautiful full color plates and (25) black and white and full color figures.

Painting on paper provides Frankenthaler with an arena for experimentation in gesture and control. Her love of paper started in childhood, and she has retained the creative freedom she experienced working on paper in those early years. Over the past 10 years, she has worked almost exclusively on paper and in a scale that sometimes rivals her large canvases measuring seven by six feet. 
Intriguingly, Frankenthaler paints her canvases like watercolors and her works on paper like paintings. For her canvases, she often painted with the stain technique that she innovated during the early 1950s when she began thinning her pigments to the consistency of watercolor and pouring them onto unsized canvas.
