The collection you are about to read embodies this spirit, including contributions from many locations around the world, seeking to embrace the unexpected and curious within contemporary art practices dealing with writing in multiple forms. At Montez Press we are committed to work which takes risks, THE INTERJECTION CALENDAR publication disrupts the status quo and aims to educate in multiple and non-didactic ways. THE INTERJECTION CALENDAR is an on and offline project, devised and hosted by Montez Press. Each month an artist or writer is commissioned to produce a new piece of work for release on our website. The PDF can be downloaded for free and there are 12 releases per year. At the end of the year the collection is published, demonstrating a diverse range of collaborations and experimental works, mapping the year in contemporary art writing, with equal space held for the emerging and the established. THE INTERJECTION CALENDAR reflects the current importance of online content media, pushing the relationship between image and text in this domain. Within the format of a magazine, each page of PFEIL MAGAZINE represents the floor, walls, or ceiling which together create an imagined room displaying a printed exhibition. Each issue is dedicated to a specific word, and artists are invited and given space to work on and with this term, and to construct or deconstruct the architecture around it. Combined, the contributions transform into an organic display surrounding the leitmotif. Deriving from the Old French nature (being, principle of life; character, essence), in turn stemming from the Latin word natura (course of things; natural character, constitution, quality; the universe), this issue revisits the term Nature once again, with all its direct and indirect meanings. In times of global warming and the urgent necessity for active change, we deal with the effects of cultural mimicry, the language of trees, artificial yolk dye, how natural resources can change in their worth and meaning, and question how the theory of evolution would have manifested under a female lens in the 19th century. There is a story about a meatball which comes out of nowhere, hitting some people's heads and changing their lives forever. There is a mouse that gets caught while trying to find a cheesy snack. There has been a 100% increase in the cost of rent in Berlin in the past 10 years and no increase in my wages. A bag full of basmati rice. A teacher stuck at work waiting for students stuck at work. There is the price one pays to purchase organic underwear so that their intimate parts are not stifled from nine hours in the office chair. There are 10 missed calls from my mother. There are places to which one cannot return and cities where it is impossible to live. There are fertility treatments that send fish oil straight into the veins two days before and two days after ovulation. The feeling of a needle in the middle of the uterus, which could be due to pregnancy, or due to fear. There is a Master's thesis which is no Master's thesis. There is a book that was not intended to be published, that was not intended to be read. Eva &#270;urovec works as a software tester 40 hours per week and studies art at the same time. There are not enough hours in the day to complete everything, to comply with everything. And then there is also her desire to have children. The question: how can all of this be reconciled within the profession of artist? &#270;urovec investigates the possibilities that arise from different class formats, and asks what we produce and reproduce--with our bodies, through our routines, trapped between the recurring desires and cruelties of daily life.
