Paul Rudolph (1918–1997) authored some of Modernism's most powerful designs and served as an influential educator while chair of Yale's School of Architecture. His early residential work in Sarasota, Florida, garnered international attention, and his later exploration of Brutalist materials nd forms, most famously embodied in his Yale Art &amp; Architecture Building (1963), earned Rudolph both notoriety and acclaim. Many of the dynamic drawings included in this collection — selected from the architect's archive housed in the Library of Congress — illustrate his highly emotive hand and deft drafting skill. Milton Glaser (1929–2020) is best known as the creator of the I ❤ NY logo and a legendary poster of Bob Dylan. He cofounded both the revolutionary Pushpin Studios in 1954 and New York Magazine in 1968. He established Milton Glaser, Inc., in 1974 and teamed with Walter Bernard in 1983 to form WBMG. In 2009, he became the first graphic designer to receive the National Medal of the Arts. He was honored with lifetime achievement awards from the Cooper Hewitt and Smithsonian Design Museum in 2004 and the Fulbright Association in 2011.

Seymour Chwast (1931-) is an American graphic designer known for his diverse body of work and lasting influence on visual culture. He has authored more than thirty children's books, four graphic novels, and several typefaces. In 1954, he cofounded Push Pin Studios (changed to The Pushpin Group in 1985), whose revolutionary work altered the course of contemporary graphic communication in the 1950s and 60s and continues to inspire the field of design worldwide. Chwast's work as a humorist is plainly felt in this biting collection of illustrative work. Sketches from his vast portfolio of unpublished children's books and his cartoon work, such as Karma for Kats and 1001 Beards, are accompanied by interviews by Steven Heller, which explore Chwast's motivations and process.
