As a pioneering, self-made laser expert he not only fought to overcome skepticism in the competitive research community, he did so while being courted by a militant right-wing extremist. It was the extremist who understood better than anyone how valuable Mike's knowledge really was, and he wanted that knowledge to help further his plans for world rebellion. Later complicit to the plan were a Wisconsin assemblyman and a Guatemalan deputy defense minister. Although becoming an FBI informant early on, Mike repeatedly encountered skeptical agents who didn't believe his fabulous claims about lasers at a time when the science was still largely misunderstood. He persevered to see the case to its surprising conclusion with the help of the few agents who did understand. This book gives you an insider's look into how the FBI conducted its investigation. Mike went on to become a successful contributor to the development of laser science, working for hospitals, NASA, and the U.S. Department of Defense.

The Chicago &amp; North Western (C&amp;NW) Railway system had the most mileage of any railroad in Wisconsin, even surpassing the state's own Milwaukee Road. Selected for this publication are 277 Wisconsin photos of the C&amp;NW from the Roy Campbell collection. Most have never been published. Depicted are steam era scenes of locomotives, depots, freight houses, roundhouses, service facilities, passenger and freight trains, and industries, many of which no longer exist. The contents are organized by logical regions of the state: Southwestern Wisconsin (lines radiating from Madison); Northwestern Wisconsin (the C&amp;NW Omaha subsidiary and predecessors); Northern Wisconsin (particularly lines built by the Milwaukee, Lake Shore &amp; Western); Green Bay and the Fox Valley; Lake Michigan shore lines; and Milwaukee.

Route of the Northwoods Hiawatha documents the length of the Milwaukee Roads Wisconsin Valley line from Tomah and New Lisbon to Star Lake and beyond. It also provides chronology for the line from the 1870s until the 1985 Soo line succession to the remaining property. The line hosted the colorful streamlined North Woods Hiawatha. The publication is a joint production of the Milwaukee Road Historical Association, Marathon County Historical Society and Merrill Publishing Associates. 194 b&amp;w photos, map, timetable and bibliography.
