This book was written in part to honor Grace Ruben as a profoundly important person, but it was also born of a desire to share with others who have loved ones with Alzheimer's disease what I have experienced as Grace's caregiver and friend. I wanted to capture the emotions, the expected and unexpected issues, the painful times as well as the humorous and loving moments that Grace and I have shared as a result of this disease. We are all sick and tired of the inequality and corruption caused by the combination of Big Gov and Big Biz: Paid-off politicians and their corporate partners protecting the status quo, keeping wages and unions down, continuing to allow unnecessary poverty and struggle for many, while enacting policies that transfer wealth from our pockets to the already rich. The only way that We the People can really change things is by living our constitutional rights - regularly practicing our freedoms to speak, assemble, organize, petition and vote. This calls for us to organize our masses politically and economically, in a more unified voice. Politically, we must participate more directly by putting overwhelming pressure on our representatives to serve our interests, instead of the wealth class's interests. Economically, we have the ability to form democratic businesses, such as cooperatives, that we collectively own and control, and by coordinating them in local, regional and national networks, we can gradually transform our system so that is truly of the people, by the people, and for the people!
