CHERISHED MEMORIES is a poetic history of a loving family spanning six generations from the mid-1850s to the present. Love, romance, humor, joy, sadness, loss, and survival have fifi lled my years. Then, ultimately, contentment is mine. Everyday happenings and surprises are the inspiration for the poetry within these pages. My book is an optimistic view of the tapestry of life. The Adventures of Gum: Bummer Summer

Gum could barely hold in his excitement on the last day of school. He had waited for this moment for over 280 days! School was close to being out, and he had plans - BIG PLANS!  His fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Magle, told the class that she had a fun surprise for the last day of school. What could it be? Well, let's just say that Mrs. Magle and Gum don't define "fun" the same way. Mrs. Magle announced to the class that she would be their teacher next year also. That wouldn't be so bad, except she assigned everyone a SUMMER WRITING PROJECT!  Gum doesn't like this news! What's he supposed to write about? He hates writing! How can he live out a summer of adventure with a writing project looming over his head? To make matters even worse, Gum's mom is a teacher across the hall. How will he ever get out of this unfortunate mess? A summer must be savored and enjoyed. SUMMERS ARE FOR KIDS!

In this novel, Ezra, the son of the apostle Peter, is an active member of a fisherman’s family living in ancient Capernaum, where Jesus stayed while on Earth, teaching and preaching. Twelve-year-old Ezra is a working member of the family, typical of boys his age. He is excited about traveling with his family and Jesus as they walk about the vast area. A shepherd, he is responsible for the care of the family’s animals, sheep and an ornery goat, and other assigned duties. He is intelligent, hard-working, and anxious to learn about Jesus. He becomes a successful eavesdropper. Of course there are conflicts. He secretly befriends a Roman boy, enemy to all Jews at the time. Their developing friendship is important to both boys. Life at that time was difficult for young people, but there were also many happy times as well as problems. The actions and incidents are based on extensive research of the Bible and many other historic references concerning the ancient world. Only Ezra as the imaginary character with the events and incidents with Jesus are a figment of the author’s imagination. It could easily have happened to a boy at that time.
