Divided into four sections - 'In Politics,' 'Countryside Stories,' 'In Town,' 'At Home' - The Polarities offers the chance to follow Fink from Washington, New York, and Panama City to rural Pennsylvania.\nThe portrait of American society that Fink sketches out starting in the 1950s continues. The Polarities narrates modern America, the radical changes between the Obama years and the arrival of Trump, the society of the spectacle - in which 'the show must go on' - and the continuing divide between metropolitan and rural areas. Here, Fink's images recall those of the Farm Security Administration, the great project designed to study American territory between 1935 and 1943.

Two slow dances and then two quick - song after song; all of them about love, while the crowd move slowly around the floor.\nSurrounding it all a fence, and on the outside a parking lot hidden secretly underneath the pines. They are imbued with a formal beauty that is revealed in the act of gazing at reflections of the natural world in water. Each frame in this contemplative body of work explores texture, compositional balance, and the contrast between light and shadow.\n"These photographs… began as meditations on nature: quiet observations of the water and what was reflected, refracted, and shadowed upon its surface. The title is a stanza from Wallace Stevens's Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird. The poem invokes, among other themes, the idea that as nature we are all connected: the flora and fauna, the air above and the ground below.
