Gestures are a powerful communication medium which has also been found to make human-machine communication more natural. The hands can be used to express shape flexibly and immediately in the spatial medium, gestures are an ideal modality for describing pictorial content. This publication investigates the principles according to which gesture and speech express shape-related content, and presents a computational approach towards the interpretation of such multimodal expressions. For that purpose a corpus of speech-gesture shape descriptions acquired from an empirical study is described and analyzed. The empirical results are used to inform a formal representation model for a unified description of shape conveyed via gesture and speech. The technology on our body, in our body and all around us enhances our health and well-being from conception to death. Human body and the world in which it functions is a continuously changing complex adaptive system. We are able to collect more and more data about it but the real challenge is to infer local dynamics from that data. Intelligent Caring Biomechatronic Creatures and Healthmaticians (mathematicians serving human health) have a better chance of inferring the dynamics that needs to be understood than human physicians. Humans can only process comfortably three dimensions while computers can see infinite number of dimensions. We will need to trust the distributed network of healthons, Intelligent Caring Creatures, and NURSES (New Unified Resource System Engineers) to create Health Extelligence. We need new vocabulary to push forward in a new way. For instance; healthons are tools combining prevention with diagnosis and treatment based on continuous monitoring and analyzing of our vital signs and biochemistry.

Cellular processes, signaled by UV radiation, contribute to the behavior of plants under various and different stresses in the environment. The importance of the free radical, nitric oxide (NO) was identified as a key early signal in this process. Stress-induced NO can be protective, produce physiological disorders, DNA damage, and programmed cell death (apoptosis). This volume is divided into three parts; (I) Instrumentation and Ecological Aspects; which evaluates case histories, and introduces new instruments for the non-invasive sensing and imaging of UV-stress-related damage in vegetation. (II) Effects of UV Radiation, Nitric oxide and Plant stress; this identifies the cell biological hazards of UV radiation coupled to other environmental stresses, and (III) Plant Stress and Programmed Cell Death; Examining how UV light may relate to the production of NO by plants in terms of DNA damage, error-prone repair cell cycles, and the multiple mechanisms of programmed cell death. The main aim in this publication is to introduce new theoretical developments and instrumentation for cell biology, to update our understanding of the effects of UV radiation, and to evaluate how plants use UV signals to protect against damage and enhance their productivity.

The Theory of Constraints (TOC) has spread as a leading managerial philosophy during the last two decades. TOC is successfully implemented in thousands of companies and organizations, large and small, throughout the globe. It has been implemented in the areas of production, logistics, distribution, project management, research and development and sales and marketing. Implementation span across a multitude of sectors in all industries: the private and public sectors, flow manufacturing as well as job shop operations, start up companies as well as corporate America, for profit and not-for-profit organizations. Implemented properly, TOC leads to significant results in a relatively short time.
