My heartfelt thanks to all who have encouraged this publishing. Through the years, my desire was to publish and share with others who may need encouragement. Many poems have been emailed and handed to those in need along the way. As friends and loved ones were in valleys and going through trials, God would give me words of encouragement for them. Every poem was written out of a need someone had that the Lord sent my way. The poems span many years of writing and are from the heart, as the Holy Spirit led. May the words continue to bless and encourage those who read. God has answered so many prayers through the years, and with the publishing of this the poetry, yet another is answered. In February of 1993, he started his journey working for one of the largest casket companies in the United States. This was his springboard into a life that led him to finding life in death. As a logistics manager, he was exposed to a number of worlds within the funeral experience, from Chicago to Milwaukee and Green Bay and then Kansas City to Fullerton, California, and finally to Houston, Texas, and then back to Kansas City. Over those years, he obtained a certificate as a minister after consulting with a number of religious leaders. Terrence decided to grasp the teachings of many of these faith pedagogues and then wrap his own beliefs around them to bring a real-life chronology into a spellbound world of true stories and ideas for the inquisitive minds. His work as a funeral associate helped him understand the inner workings of daily life in the actual funeral home. As a celebrant, Terrence is a professional as he finds the life of those gone before us as lights to our future. A look into the life and observance of a funeral pro and minister, there are times to laugh and times to cry. I think I've read that before. Terrence brings to life the world of the death-care industry while offering suggestions to us all on how to deal with the stress and the loss of a loved one and how to prepare our own final ride to the other side. Some parts read like a novel, others a series of essays and others like short stories told by relatives reminiscing around a fireside. Still, it all flows smoothly into a single story of how four families, united over three generations, formed a single family. It explains why my ancestors decided to leave their homelands of Germany, France and Ireland and move to America, and how they overcame many adversities. And finally, it tells of how my ancestor's determination and courage was handed down to me.This story presents a full social account of the characters: a history that traces the progress of social life in the dealings of the families, the various changes in the habits and occupations of individuals, and the improvements in domestic life that created conditions and made circumstances better for the families over time. It also expresses these people's values and beliefs, which contributed to their ability to succeed and adjust to the changes and challenges that confronted them. It is a chronicle of occurrences in which significant events are commemorated, demonstrating the historical changes that occurred over a period of one hundred fifty years.The main characters in this story are, or were, real people; however, the personages of my distant ancestors are, in part, the creations of my imagination. As such, they may appear fictional. Unfortunately, I do not have the means of learning, to any great extent, how my distant ancestors were fed, lodged and clothed, nor what the workings of their daily lives were actually like. I can only surmise their attitudes and actions based on family folklore and available historical facts. I wish I could see more, know more, about their day-to-day routines.What I offer here is simply my best effort to portray my ancestors in the way I believe they lived. In so doing, I have included sections of dialogue, based in part on letters written at the time, embellished by colloquies in order to bring each character alive for the reader. My portrayal of main characters is consistent with general truth and fidelity; the dialogue is intended only as an illustration, or ornament. I have also included descriptions, actions and perceptions of a few people who are not real, but who are typical of local citizens that could be found in each time period and historical setting. Even though they did not actually exist, they might have. I have attempted to place the actions and perceptions of characters in an attractive and interesting light, rejecting what is improper and needless, and to fill the picture with real, just and well-drawn images. I wanted to recite events with truth and accuracy, while presenting the people that this story is about in an interesting manner. I may have embellished, but I've not misrepresented. I may have colored too highly, but the truth is still visible through the shading. About the Author Lou Seelig is the embodiment of the American dream. He was born in a small town of Honesdale, PA to first generation immigrant parents. He learned humility and determination while raised as the oldest boy of nine children from a modest family. He also learned courage as a platoon leader in Vietnam being awarded a Purple Heat and Bronze Star. He overcame a below average start at school to become the Comptroller for President Reagan's missile defense program. While a senior fellow at the National Defense University he wrote a controversial book predicting Desert Storm four years before it occurred. Success has always been a driving factor for Lou, but he found out late in his career that he needed to redefine success.

World War II brought out the best in volunteerism and Robert Brodersen, "Brodie", was a prime example of the tens of thousands who went. He just happened to keep a diary of his 37 missions as a B-17 pilot in the 336th squadron of the 95th Bomb Group in Horham England in 1944, which opened a whole new light on the man our father was. This is an excerpt from his first mission, "So sitting in the lead plane, this twenty-three-year-old Nebraska farm boy had some view. In my wildest dreams, never did I think of seeing a thing like this." He tells of the missions, successes and losses, as well as life when he wasn't flying, in his honest, humorous manner. Along with the years I have spent working on these books, I expect these personal books of mine to make a lot of people upset with me. As a former Governor once said, "Were fisherman we know that only dead fish "go with the flow."
