Doña Flor is a lyrical drama in one act with music by Niccolò van Westerhout and libretto by Arturo Colautti. Composed for the theater of Mola di Bari, already named after van Westerhout, Doña Flor was performed for the first time on April 18, 1896. This one-act opera was conceived keeping in mind its dimensions, insufficient to contain large vocal and instrumental ensemble, or to allow dazzling scenic changes. The scene is only one, singers and orchestra members were reduced to the minimum necessary: three protagonists, a gondolier's chorus out of scene, and a forty-three elements orchestra, as requested by the composer. Doña Flor is one of the most beautiful and outstanding Nineteenth century's Italian operas; a one-act that would do well when placed amongst others whose fate was less transient and whose creators more lucky.

Queen risolve il caso e il colpevole viene arrestato prontamente dopo la sua accusa. Nela seconda parte, alcuni anni sono passati e il caso ritorna a galla a causa della morte di uno dei protagonisti dell’investigazione originale. I dubbi assalgono Queen sulla possibile innocenza della persona da lui accusata e una serie di eventi traumatizzanti portano ad una conclusione sbalorditiva che stupirà il lettore. Tallone è riuscito a scrivere un giallo ‘puro’ ed affascinante che ti ‘prende’ fin dalle prime righe e riesce a mantenere l’adeguato suspense fino alla fine. Nella prima sezione, l’autore sviluppa molto bene i personaggi principali, offrendo dettagli fisici e psicologici che riescono a dipingere veri ritratti di questi pur senza portare alla noia. La sezione finisce lasciando il lettore in sospeso, dato che la soluzione del caso pare forse un po’ troppo ovvia. La seconda parte scava ancor più nei personaggi, permettendo di scoprire altri aspetti di loro e della loro vita che porteranno ad un finale sorprendente ed eccitante. Questo è un libro che merita l’attenzione di tutti i lettori che amano l’avventura, il suspense, gli intrighi e i polizieschi in generale.
