That paradoxical suggestion of the infinite in and through the finite: so in his first published writing, a eulogy of Jose Maria Hereida, a cousin on his mother's side, Pierre Rousselot, characterized the poet's achievement of genius. What the poet suggests the metaphysician seeks to clarify. These words present the task which the young Jesuit set himself as he entered the ways od speculation. For more then being the ideal of the great metaphysicians of history, those words reflect justly the whole sacramental reality of Christianity. The infinite God can and does reveal Himself through the finite and thereby sanctifies and elevates this finite world beyond itself. God remains God, and man remains man, but the two are joined in Jesus Christ and the sacraments of the Church. Born 1878 at Nantes, Rousselot grew into the strong Breton faith of a family that had remained constant to martyrdom during the French Revolution. When he chose at the age of sixteen to leave the world by entering the Jesuit novitiate, he never recognized a complete separation between the world of God and the world of man. Nature and grace had so cooperated in his own upbringing that conversion, through real, was much more a return to deeper, hidden springs of life than a complete repture with the past. His profound sensitivity for the fundamental unity of nature and grace, flesh and spirit found a kindred soul in St. Thomas Aquinas, the proposed master of his philosophical and theological studies in the Society of Jesus.

A treatise on general moral philosophy involves a double limitation. On the one hand, it only considers the general outlines of moral reality without describing its content; it limits itself to provide the principles which will later permit that description. This is a valuable aid for a critical understanding of the image of the Good Shepherd as a source for the spirituality of the ministerial priesthood. The introduction sets up the theoretical context for the scientific analysis of the shepherd image by presenting some basic principles for arriving at the theological meaning of this image. The study goes on to illustrate the interdependence and interplay of traditions in relation to the meaning of the shepherd image. The authors studies the image in its Near Eastern background, in the literature of the Old Testament and other Jewish traditions, in the New Testament, especially John's Gospel, in the Fathers of the Church, and finally in the writings of the recent Popes. The final section is an essay which aims at working out a spirituality of the ministerial priesthood in the light of the shepherd image. Here, the author explains the notion of pastoral charity, the fulcrum of this spirituality. He stresses on the relationship the priest must have to Christ and his flock.

The term naos is found thirteen times in the Apocalypse, indicating the significant place it occupies within the book. To date, no complete study of the theme of the temple in this Book exists. Taking into consideration the scholarly contributions that have been made by those studying the book or the theme of the temple in the New Testament, the present work proposes an analysis of the verses containing the term naos in view of establishing John the Seer's use of temple imagery to speak of the Church. The study concludes by presenting the temple theology of the Book of Revelation including a comparison with the texts of the Old Testament, Jewish intertestamental literature and the New Testament with particular regard to the Fourth Gospel. Andrea Spatafora, 1958, made profession in the Congregation of the Missionaries of the Holy Family and was ordained a priest in 1983. Completing a licentiate in Sacred Scripture at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in 1992, he obtained a doctorate in Biblical Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in 1997.

This thesis studies the background to the pastoral renewal of revelation theology represented in the first chapter of the Constitution Dei Verbum. The background to this renewal can be found in the development of, and responses to, the fourth chapter of the preparatory schema De deposito Fidei which dealt specifically with the question of revelation and faith. The debate surrounding this chapter in the two years preceding the Council witnessed an encounter between the manualist tradition and contemporary theological insights into the theology of revelation. As this study shows, it was out of this early encounter that the Council's hopes for a pastoral renewal of revelation theology developed.
