Returning to her family home after losing her husband at the end of their thirteen year trip to Africa, Aunt Catherine is frail and confused. And only she and her middle son Jedidiah, who accompanied his father and mother on their travels, know the contents of her late husband's will, and of the keepsake trunk, stored all these years awaiting her return. As Catherine disembarks from the ship, she is welcomed by her childhood friend Becky, and Becky's daughter Myrtle. Myrtle has also experienced loss; her husband and her father both died in a boating accident two years earlier, leaving her with two small boys to raise. Written in a style reminiscent of the popular author of the time, Victor Appleton (the pseudonymous author of The Moving Picture Boys and Tom Swift series), Aunt Catherine offers a glimpse into life in the American northwest at the end of the Great Depression, as it was experienced by Catherine and her extended family and friends. Born in Chicago, Barbara Janssens was raised in a large family. She has worked in the computer field and as Archive Administrator for the Theatre Historical Society of America, headquartered in Elmhurst, Illinois. Along with her husband Tom, she has recently retired to a hobby farm in northern Minnesota to enjoy hiking, bicycling, snowshoeing and the four distinct seasons of their new home.

Throughout most of history, any person or persons known to practice magick or associate with ones who do were persecuted and put to death. To the majority of people, religious zealots and their followers, the magick was witchcraft. And those who practiced it were witches, conjurers of evil and followers of darkness. All feared that which they didn't understand. Due to fixed beliefs superimposed by ignorance and predisposed judgments, senseless killings were committed. Burnings were popular. And some took it upon themselves to hunt down all witches. To the present day, witch hunts continue. Secret societies, "overlooked" by the government, are led by one who remains in existence until all witches and their descendants are cleansed and purified by holy fire. Their societies, needless to say are well hidden, but all things hidden are certain to be found. And regardless of the passing of time, there will never fail to be a karmic return. The restless will find peace. And for all the senseless acts committed, by the threefold rule, those responsible, to them shall they be given back.

"When Love Whispered to My Soul" is a passionate journey that takes the reader to those four stages of love: The dream, the encounter with love, the loss of love, and the re-encounter of love. Ousmane Doumbia was born in Diourbel in central Senegal, West Africa, in 1972. He received his Masters Degree in English from Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, Senegal. He has worked as a library clerk and as an English/French translator and interpreter. In 2007, he accepted a two-year contract as personnel manager at a gold mine in the eastern part of his native land. Ousmane Doumbia has resided in Chicago with his wife since January, 2010.
