The Unification Church (UC) is a contemporary religious movement with a comprehensive theology, philosophy and social theory. The movement was founded by Sun Myung Moon who was born in Korea, January 6, 1920. Initially a member of the Presbyterian Church, he officially founded the movement in 1954 in Seoul, Korea. During the 1970's, it spread throughout the United States and into more than 120 nations around the world. During that that time, Rev. Moon and his missionaries seemed to stir up controversy everywhere they went. They manifested a zeal that was, at the very least, uncommon, if not downright bizarre to traditional religious sensibilities. There were the very strongly anti-communist teachings, the Oriental roots of the movement and, above all, the novel and somewhat revolutionary theology which more established denominations saw as a challenge.
