<p>From 1945 to 1951 the personal life of Elwyn Bowen reversed the whole trust of modern Welsh history and took him rather unexpectredly, to be headmaster of Llwyn Madoc school in Buelah near builth. It was, in distance, almost a near neighbour of Merthyr Tydfil, in culture, a world away. Elwyn Bowen discovered a community in which tradititional rural crafts and village self-sufficiency, all wrapped up in a society made and directed by a Welsh-Language culture and its religious manifestation, still, but ohly just, thrived. By the time he left it the economy of consumer goods, mass produced and shop bought, had already taken over. He was the witness to its last gasp His scholarly work would later describe and analyze, in marvellous detail, how the rural and the urbanb here interwined unmtil one strangled the deep identity of the other. Now, in SWEET BEULAH LAND, though still steeped in that knowledge, he brushes in the colours of personality and the vivacity of anecdote to give us a book that is a delight to read for its capacity to breathe life into that lost world. Dr. Bowen's prose is as sparkling and enticing as the rivers his poacheres fished in and as warm and compassionate as the men and women he portrays so brilliantly. Two Weleses met in those years and through the person of Elwyn Bowen. We have reason to be grateful it was so.</p>

Lowenfeld realized that “Play” was the medium through which children worked out their emotional conflicts. She recognized that it was a cognitive process which could be analyzed (in a non-Freudian way) to understand and deal with behavior problems and also perhaps help them to develop.
