What started out to be a hike toMount Wilson has turned into a journey through nature's reality and man's interaction with it. At first I did not realize my trek up the mountainside would be followed by others and that as time passed the frequency of visits would increase to the point of purchasing a cabin. A few years after I became a so-called "Canyonite," the full realization of what had and was going on in this natural setting began to unfold. Bits and pieces of the colorful history as told by the older canyon dwellers started ebbing out. Suddenly the thirst to know as much as possible about what really led to the present became unquenchable, only to be satisfied by taking my questions to individuals, libraries, historical societies ? hoping to find the real answers. As the history unfolded, the encouragement and the excitement of the many individuals involved created an indebtedness only to be satisfied by sharing their story, the story of our heritage of the Big Santa Anita Canyon.
