Through her employment of a variety of media ranging from sculpture to the comic strip, American artist Jessica Diamond has had a consistent interest in wall drawings. Known for wry, incisive texts painted directly on the wall, Diamond continues to use elements of image and text in her work, even as she moves toward an increasingly tactile and sensual approach, as documented here.

Scottish artist Christine Borland is known for her preoccupation with the awkward relationship between science and history. Bullet Proof Breath examines her recent work, including the title piece, a blown glass sculpture made with spider silk, and is produced in conjunction with an overview of the artist's work since 1994 at the Art Gallery of York University, Toronto.

History & Criticism

At once a personal narrative and an encyclopedic gathering of material, Dutch artist Mark Manders' "Self-Portrait" began its life as a building in 1986. Since then, Manders has exhibited fragments of the project, an array of created and found objects, furniture, sculpture and drawings, keeping it in constant flux, changing its order with each showing.

Pierre Bismuth's videos have parodied Hollywood productions before, but will he stop now that he has his own Oscar? Bismuth won Best Original Screenplay for his collaboration with Michel Gondry and Charlie Kaufman on Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. He and Gondry first teamed up a decade ago for a French music video, and it was Bismuth who proposed to Gondry a project based on memory erasure. Bismuth's work, which includes drawings, collages and musical compositions in addition to video projections, has always wittily played with language and undertaken deadpan manipulations of popular culture, and this collection provides the full range of the French artist's output, including his new Unfolded Origami series. Conceptual art theorist Alexander Alberro adds a significant scholarly essay.

When Sarah Winchester's husband died, she inherited a fortune in profits from the Winchester Repeating Rifle. She spent the second half of her life building a 160-room Victorian mansion, a construction project designed never to end, as she believed that continuing to build would stave off the ghosts of those killed by Winchester guns.
