The purpose of the conference was to review current research and the wealth of industrial applications that are in progress with accelerators throughout the world. The conference was composed of two symposia which ran in parallel. These are the Research Symposium and the Industrial Applications of Accelerators. Some of the sessions, which are of general interest, were held common to both groups. An overview of the state of the art in density functional theory is presented. Not only the recent theoretical developments but also the achievements in calculating mechanical and electronic properties of molecules, polymers, and solids are described. Recent developments related to the construction of exchange-correlation functionals used in density functional theory for ground and excited states are presented. Applications to materials modeling in general as well as to nanotubes, quantum dots, and artificial molecules are incorporated. Topics such as optical excitations, critical temperatures of superconductors, and state-of-the-art Monte Carlo calculations are also discussed.

It covers the newest approaches to producing low temperatures and to the use of systems at low temperature such as new superconducting magnets, space applications and the properties at these temperatures. The design, construction, testing, and characterization of cryogenic systems are presented.

Neuroscience was the topic of several talks and papers. Emerging themes appear to be the control of neuronal activity and the construction of hybrid neuron-circuit systems, and that of using nonlinear data analysis techniques for the characterization of physiological pathologies. It was shown that these approaches can be applied to cardiac arrhythmias and detection of problems in EEG signals. Synchronization of chaos in optical systems was also presented. New topics that were presented were Ecology and Traffic dynamics. Also, ecological dynamics showed that state space concepts can also be applied to populations and insect networks. Die Unterschiedlichkeit der Wachstumsraten in der Eurozone und insbesondere die Wachstumsschwäche Deutschlands im Vergleich zu der starken Wachstumsbeschleunigung in den USA in den 90er Jahren sind Anlass für die fundierte Untersuchung von Wirtschafts- und Wachstumstrends in diesem Band. Dabei wird die Wachstumsdynamik in Verbindung mit strukturellem Wandel sowie Innovations- und Außenhandelsdynamik analysiert. Besondere Berücksichtigung findet die Wachstumsrelevanz der New Economy. This conference brought together experts on the manner in which structure emerged from chaos in the early universe. The Emergence of Cosmic Structure: Thirteenth Astrophysics Conference, College Park, MD, 7-9, October 2002

As the 21st century begins, gravitational wave astronomy is poised to open a new observational window on the universe. Ground-based kilometer-scale interferometers, such as LIGO, VIRGO, and GEO600, will observe high frequency gravitational radiation, while the space-based LISA detector will probe the low frequency regime. Taken together, these gravitational wave detectors will provide an unprecedented look at astrophysical systems that have previously been viewed almost exclusively through electromagnetic "eyes". This workshop focused on the astrophysics of anticipated gravitational wave sources and the scenarios that surround them. The papers encompass theoretical studies as well as observations of associated electromagnetic or particle signatures and emphasize issues that need to be clarified for a better astrophysical understanding of these sources.
