<p>The death of Baldr and its aftermath comprise the central moment of Scandinavian mythology. This book attempts to make sense of that story in the context of its thirteenth century recording by paying close attention to the texts themselves rather than to hypothetical background in cult or ritual. It elucidates both the literary and probable socio-historical context, and in connection with the latter it draws special attention to the fact that Baldr's story does not end with his death but always involves acts of vengeance, thus suggesting an involvement with bloodfeud.</p>

This book studies the structure and style of orally transmitted fairy tales from Eastern Morocco in Berber and dialectal Arabic. Drawing on materials collected in his own fieldwork and other sources, the author pays special attention to the aesthetics of the fairy tale as understood by Max Lüthi and to the analysis of tale-specific formulae. Two hitherto unpublished Figuig Berber fairy tales are appended, as is a comparison of two versions of an Eastern Riffian story which, though collected independently at an interval of 60 years, show remarkable similarities.

Cette etude propose une lecture anthropologique de représentation du sommeil et de la veille dans le conte merveilleux grec. Le corpus étudié correspond à cinq cents variantes réparties entre cinq contes types plus un écotype complexe: AT 709 (Blanche Neige), AT 410 (La Belle au bois dormant), les sous types B et G du conte AT 425 (La recherche de l'époux disparu), AT 400 (L'homme à la recherche de son épouse disparue), AT 306 (Les souliers usés à la danse) et l'écotype *514C (Le Roi Sommeil). Une comparaison constante avec diverses formes de l'imaginaire populaire grec révèle que ces représentations suivent une symbolique commune et en accord avec les règles sociales de la formation des identités de sexe.
