Eugene Debs ran for President five times as the candidate of the Socialist Party of America. The last being in 1920 while in a federal penitentiary. He received nearly one million votes in that election. He had been convicted by a federal court in 1918 under the wartime espionage law because he spoke out against the war in Europe. Throughout his life he had been a tireless political and labor leader. This book is his story while serving time in prison.
