The Generals of the Yang Family: Four Early Plays

Wilt L. Idema (Harvard University) and Stephen H. West (Arizona State University) have collaborated in the study and translation of early Chinese drama for many years. Their publications include Chinese Theater 1100-1450: A Source Book (1982); The Story of the Western Wing (1995); Monks, Bandits, Lovers, and Immortals: Eleven Early Chinese Plays (2010); and Battles, Betrayals, and Brotherhood: Early Chinese Plays on the Three Kingdoms (2012). Both contributed a chapter to the recent Cambridge History of Chinese Literature (2010), and many of their articles have been published in Chinese. Wilt L. Idema is also the translator of Judge Bao and the Rule of Law: Eight Ballad-Stories from the period 1250-1450 (World Scientific, 2010).
