Emperor Kangxi - Pictorial Series in English and Chinese
Description:
Kangxi () was the most celebrated among all the 11 emperors of the Qing dynasty. In 1681, Kangxi quelled the "Three Vassal States' Upheaval". Two years later, he recovered Taiwan and stationed troops there to guard against the invasion of the western colonialists. In 1685, he deployed his troops to expel the invading Czarist-Russian forces that occupied the Yakeza region along the Hei Long Jiang River, curbing the aggressive ambition of Czarist-Russia. From 1690, he deployed his troops thrice to suppress the rebellions in western China of the aristocrats of Zhun Ge Er tribe who colluded with Czarist-Russia. This consolidated further the unity of China as a country of multiple nationalities. In his 61-year reign, Kangxi rewarded uprightness; placed great emphasis on agricultural production; regulated the Yellow River and ensuring the clear passage of the Big Canal; promoted trade development; attracted talents and exerted all his efforts to make the country prosperous. All in all, he succeeded in making China one of the most economically developed and militarily powerful nation in the world at that time.
