Ovid in Exile

The last eight years of Ovid's life (AD 9-17) were spent in exile in Tomis, in modern day Romania, on the orders of Augustus; yet during this time Ovid produced Tristia and Ex Ponto , two of his most important works. Radulescu's study examines Ovid's early poems and his place in the imperial household before considering the complicated motives behind his exile, still surrounded by controversy, and the impact of Tomis and exile on Ovid's literay output.
