Oecd Environmental Performance Reviews: Mexico

Description:
Whilst Mexico's GDP grew by 41% between 1990 and 2001, dual consumption and production patterns persist with regional disparities. Mexico, Latin America's most important exporting country, has pursued a policy of opening up its economy and integrating it with world markets. Strong decoupling of environmental pressure from GDP has not yet been achieved. Indeed economic growth has ocurred together with increased pressures on the environment. To meet its challenges Mexico needs to thoroughly implement its environmental policies; integrate environmental concerns into economic and social decisions; and meet its international environmental commitments.
