Dynamical Response of Saturated and Dry Soils

A general description of the dynamics of porous media is given and discussed.Analytical solutions near interfaces are derived using Fourier transform.A finite element program, 'Titan', is developed, which links the phenomena of wave-propagation and consolidation. Non-linear behaviour of the skeleton is taken into account.A pile-driving simulator, a full-scale pile-driving test and a dynamical photoelastic experiment using oil-saturated crushed glass are described.The dynamical behaviour of a breakwater under wave-impact and the pile-driving simulator experiment are calculated using the finite element program Titan.
