Description:

The American Atlas was first published in 1776 in London, and consisted of twenty-nine maps made by one of the most renowned cartographers of the day, Thomas Jefferys. To celebrate the American Bicentennial in 1976, Nottingham Court Press produced a facsimile of the American Atlas, limited to 200 copies. The company ceased trading, and a forgotten stock of copies recently came to light at the binders. Copies of the original change hands at $100,000 or more and are extremely rare. This facsimile offers the opportunity to possess a fine reference facsimile of a milestone of mapping and of American cartographic history. MAPS 1-3 North and South America; 4 Russian Discoveries; 5,6 North America with the West India Islands; 7 North America; 8 British Empire in North America; 9 River St Laurence; 10 Gulf of St Laurence; 11 Island of St John; 12 Newfoundland; 13 Banks of Newfoundland; 14 Nova Scotia and Cape Breton; 15,16 New England: Massachusets-Bay, New-Hampshire, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Boston; 17 New York and New Jersey; 18 Lake Champlain; 19 Province of Quebec; 20 Pennsylvania; 21,22 Virginia, Maryland; 23, 24 North and South Carolina, Georgia; 25 Florida, with part of the Bahama Islands; 26 River Missisippi; 27 Bay of Honduras; 28,29 South America, with the Falkland Islands; 30 Straights of Magellan.
